The Spelling Bee is an annual competition held at class level in Years 2 - 6 at St Laurence’s Primary. Students in Years 3 - 6 are able to progress to Stage Group and Diocesan levels of the competition. Information and word lists are sent home during Term 2 for the students to prepare for the competition. During the competition students spell out words of varying difficulty.
Participating in the Spelling Bee develops the students’ skills and knowledge of words, comprehension and vocabulary well beyond their age.
The benefits of Spelling Bees extend beyond language. Since children are required to spell words while on stage, students also develop self-confidence, communication and public speaking skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure.
