St Laurence’s Primary offers a wide range of sporting and physical activities as part of the Personal Development, Health and Physical Education curriculum. All students from K to 6 focus on the fundamental movement skills to ensure they are able to participate both competitively and for leisure in a range of sports.
We provide balanced and diverse programs that meet the needs of all our students to encourage fair play, persistence, team spirit and healthy competition. We teach good sportsmanship as an integral aspect of everything we offer and continuously receive affirming comments about the positive spirit in which our students compete.
Throughout the year students have the opportunity to participate in a number of team sports gala days. These gala days are intended for student enjoyment and to encourage students to participate in inter-school competitions.
A variety of sports skills are taught and developed across all grades, with skilled instructors rotating their focus on gymnastics, athletics and a variety of sports. Our yearly K-6 athletics carnival includes both track and field events. In Term 4 each year, students also participate in an intensive K-6 swimming program.
Three school carnivals are held each year:
Further opportunities are available to students for selection in representative teams within the Bathurst Diocesan levels before proceeding to Polding. The selection here results in representation at the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) State level, and then Australian Schools Championships. Representation opportunities available for students attending St. Laurence’s Primary are Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, Summer Sports and Winter Sports.
